Edited Volume (Springer, proposed)
Tourism Geography and Territorial Dynamics in the Adriatic–Ionian Region

In connection with REDETE 2026 Conference (Ancona, Italy)
9–10 September 2026 | Marche Polytechnic University, Ancona
Overview

We invite chapter proposals for an edited volume provisionally entitled Tourism Geography and Territorial Dynamics in the Adriatic–Ionian Region, to be submitted to Springer.

The volume aims to advance scholarly understanding of how tourism both shapes and is shaped by territorial dynamics in the Adriatic–Ionian region and the Western Balkans. Positioned at the intersection of EU member states and accession countries, this region offers a unique laboratory for examining spatial transformations, regional development trajectories, and evolving governance frameworks under conditions of geopolitical and geo-economic change.

Building on discussions initiated at the REDETE Conference 2026, the book will bring together interdisciplinary contributions that address tourism as a driver of territorial restructuring, regional resilience, and cross-border integration.

Scope and Themes

We welcome theoretically informed and empirically grounded contributions addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

  • Tourism and territorial development processes
  • Spatial restructuring and regional disparities
  • Cross-border tourism and macro-regional cooperation
  • Tourism and regional resilience in times of crisis
  • Tourism within EU enlargement and Europeanisation processes
  • Smart Specialization Strategies and tourism innovation systems
  • Digital transformation and platform economies in tourism
  • Sustainable tourism, climate change, and the green transition
  • Mobility systems, accessibility, and tourism flows
  • Governance, policy frameworks, and territorial cohesion

Comparative and interdisciplinary approaches are particularly encouraged.
